Ooty
(18/20 Jan 1997)

Our hotel (Sinclairs) is perched on top of a hill just outside Ooty which can be seen down below.

I took a bus into town and explored the botanical gardens, built in 1847 and covering 51 acres of land.

Heading back into town I couldn't help notice the thunderous fire crackers and smoke which preceeded this communist march.
The pink sheep roaming the streets were quite a suprise.

Meanwhile Sue went off with a group which walked into town.

These pictures show some of the delightful scenery and fascinating villages she passed on her way.

Our journey continued by heading due North, descending from the Nilgiri hills towards Mysore on the plateau below.
Back at ground level we drive through two national parks seperated by the Tamil Nadu / Karnataka border were we stop for our lunch.

As we start to descend the views are quite spectacular.

From the road we have some of the best views of wildlife of the whole trip.
Elephants, Monkeys, Peacocks and Deer enlighten our way.
