Udaipur
(14/15 Jan 1998)

Founded in 1568 Udaipur (the Venice of the East) lines the banks of Lake Pichola in South Rajasthan.

The lake is 4 Km long and 3 Km wide and this panorama just shows a bit of one end.

The city was built by the Maharana Udai Singh and this is the palace he built for himself at that time.
Constructed from marble and towering over the lake it is the largest palace in Rajasthan.

A view of the lake from one of the palaces windows.
The palace was built around a hill which explains the garden we found on the roof.

That was an eagle sat in the tree on the left.
After leaving the palace we walked around the lake for a while.

Then we stopped for a drink at the side of the lake to watch the sun going down.

A fairly short drive today as we head East towards Chittaurgarh.

A wedding party we passed on our route (that is the bride you can see on the left).
