Jaipur
(17/18 Jan 1998)

Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan and known as the Pink City because of the paint used within the walled town.

The man on the left is making Indian sweets by condensing milk in a pan.

The spectacular fort of Amber is 11 Km away and was once the capital of the old Jaipur state.

Looking down on the elephants we rode up the hill to the fort.
The palace is a magnificent building and well worth the trip out of town.

A view of the fort from ground level after walking back down.

Back in Jaipur itself the city palace occupies a large area divided into many courtyards and buildings.

A long drive East to Agra in Utter Pradesh, the yellow line on the map marks the border with Rajasthan.

As the camels are unique to Rajasthan this was one of the last we would see for some time to come.
